The crew met Her Excellency Sheikha Hind to discuss the impact of the non-profit organization she leads on advancing education in Qatar, as well as the growth of the country’s education system, and how tradition and cultural heritage is a central component of Qatar Foundation’s vision. Filming took place at Her Excellency Sheikha Hind’s home, Qatar Foundation headquarters, and Academyati, a progressive school for elementary children within Qatar Foundation’s Education City, and one of her most cherished projects.

“Her Excellency Sheikha Hind bint Hamad Al Thani is a passionate believer in the power of education to shape lives, strengthen societies, and build a better world,” said Producer Melodie Carli. “We’re excited to share her story with viewers.”

“Thank you Her Excellency Sheikha Hind and Qatar Foundation for sharing your innovative initiatives and culture with us,” added Producer Juan Carlos Borrero.

HER documentary highlights the stories of heroic women who shattered barriers to achieve excellence in their fields. Filming began last year with the incredible life stories of environmentalist/activist Wanjira Mathai in Kenya, Special Representative/Deputy Special Adviser of the UN Secretary-General to Cyprus, Elizabeth Spehar, and Major General Cheryl Pearce, United Nations Peacekeeping Force in Cyprus Force Commander.

HER will make its World Premiere in September during the United Nations General Assembly in New York, following special screenings this summer in Washington D.C. and Qatar in celebration of Qatar-USA 2021 Year of Culture.

HER is created by directors and producers Melodie Carli (A Call For Peace) and Juan Carlos Borrero (A Call For Peace). HER was made possible in collaboration with the embassy of the State of Qatar, Washington, DC and UNOPS, with the support of the United Nations Peacekeeping Force in Cyprus, UN WOMEN, UNITAR, and UNDPI. HER will be distributed internationally by The Big Pieces Company.

About A Call For Peace:
A Call For Peace is a non-profit organization which aims to inform citizens, corporations, world leaders, and government and educational institutions on the importance of peace, education, dialogue, and gender equality, while supporting the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals. Formed in 2019 by Melodie Carli and Juan Carlos Borrero, A Call For Peace’s debut project was “A Call For Peace”, the documentary, inspired by the historic Colombian peace process. This led to the creation of an online course and e-learning tool on the topic, in conjunction with UNITAR-UN Institute for Training And Research, and available internationally. A Call For Peace’s current project is “HER”, a documentary that highlights the stories of heroic women who shattered barriers to achieve excellence in their fields.
